OVA 80/20 Rule & Team Formation

As a newly approved OVA member club, TriCity Volleyball Club is required to follow the OVA’s new club roster guidance. This means teams are restricted to up to 20% returning OVA athletes, unless waived at the discretion of the OVA selection team. The remaining roster spots are intended to help create more opportunities for athletes who are new to OVA club volleyball. (Ontario Volleyball Association)

For athletes, this means past club experience is not the only factor. Our coaches evaluate effort, coachability, attitude, positional needs, commitment, and overall team fit. Every roster spot must be earned.

Our Open Gyms are designed to support this process. They give athletes a chance to train, compete, meet our coaches, understand team expectations, and experience the TCVC environment before formal team decisions are made. Participation in Open Gyms does not guarantee selection to a team.

Key OVA Timeline

For the 2026–2027 season, OVA timelines include the end of the indoor season on May 31, the June 1–26 re-signing period, and for TLS–18U athletes, the July 1–September 4 Open Commitment Period. OVA tryout listings and open roster spots are posted September 1, with tryouts, and OVA offer forms beginning September 8.

For 4v4 and 6v6 athletes, there is no Open Commitment Period; families should follow the official OVA tryout timeline for those divisions.

Questions? Please reach out before tryouts at info@tricityvolleyball.ca. Always refer to the latest OVA policies for official details.
